...The Beebes have expanded to a second location in San Ann to open The Local Pub and Provisions. Located in an old grocery store from the 1920s on The Square, They still feature and support local farms and business is booming. From a local cheese (Winter Park Creamery) plate, to 14 local craft beers on draft, the staff tshirts boast, It’s a Local Thing. And it certainly is. The Local has an outdoor patio and live music from time to time. It’s become a real community hang out.
“What drives me”, says the tall affable Beebe, “is keeping it all full circle. We support local agriculture and cook for the seasons with our heritage and indigenous ingredients in mind. Florida has obvious perks in terms of weather and coastline of course, but many people miss the charm which still exists on the interior. There are still multi generation farms, winding, hilly country roads and orchards just 30 miles north of bustling Tampa. It’s a whole different world in just ½ an hour. We still pick our own blueberries down the road at Butch’s, we don’t have distributors, we have farmers. And we know everybody who grows our food. I like to think of it as the Napa of Tampa! ”
“I hear people lament from time to time that they miss the roots of Old Florida history, that they can’t find it anymore...but we’re still here! There’s a lot of history in East Pasco that hasn’t been wiped out with ‘progress’. You do have to make a hard right and poke around a bit, if you’re just blowing by on I-75, you’ll definitely miss us, but it’s worth slowing down for.”
